A Survey on Public Health Nursing Manopower in Seoul

Abstract
In order to study the manpower status of nurses employed by the health centers in Seoul, a survery was conducted on 150 licensed nurses of the nine health centers and two sub-centers in Seoul during a 50-day period from July 10 to August 30, 1971 by letting them fill out questionnaire forms. Through the analysis of the result, the following conclusion has been reached.
1) The average age of nurse employed by health centers was 35.0 years 6.3 years.
2) By their place of birth, those born in Seoul constituted 43.3 percent or the greatest proportion.
3) The average number of familiy members was 4.9 persons ¡¾2.2 persons including nurses themselves.
4) Married nurses constituted 86.0 percent of the total number of nurses employed by health centers, and unmarried ones only 5.4 percent.
5) By category of license obtianed, graduates of nursing technical high school constituted 68.7 percent or the greatest proportion while graduates of the regular four-year course nursing college occupied an extremely small proportion, 4.0 percent.
6) Those with two years or less in duration service constituted 69.3 percent, showing a high rate of separation from the nursing profession. Those who wished the extended period of service in this profession constituted 14.7 percent which a accounted monthly for aged persons.
7) The average length of suspension from profession was 36.7 monthes. Those who have experienced suspension constituted two thirds of the total number.
8) As for the age for suspensions, the age group of 25 to 29 years constituted 35.3 percent or the greatest proportion.
